036: The Transformation: From the Never-Stop Hustle of the Over-Achieving Entrepreneur to discovering the Answer to Living a Truly Wonderful Life + Ayahuasca, Psychedelics + a whole lot more with Ben Pottinger

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to episode 35 of the White Pony Network Podcast. Soon we’ll be doing a rebrand of the podcast from White Pony to the MindAim Academy Podcast, and this episode is definitely on topic of the slightly new direction!

I first had the pleasure of meeting Ben around 11 years ago when I booked him for a few gigs as a DJ. In 2010 we both coincidentally completed the Landmark Forum together, and this event really set us and especially Ben on the path. The next time I saw Ben he was in a shirt in front of a white board on a facebook video talking about business marketing. From there Ben went hard at both personal development and business and was having quite a lot of success with business. He would get up at 4:30am and grind out long days and was extremely focussed.

He reached the stage where he was plateauing, was miserable and his performance really started to dip.

This is the story of Ben’s incredible transformation to a man who has discovered what it truly means to be happy and where success sits amongst that. This is truly inspiring and I see this as part of the new wave and very much leading the new wave of realisation as society slowly wakes up to the truth – for lack of a better term.

One night a message came to Ben to reach out to me to do the Podcast, and this is how this came about. It was meant to be that we’re able to share this conversation with you. So listen up, take notes, and get ready to learn from Ben Pottinger’s remarkable and revealing story.

My Biggest Take-Aways

  • ‘Whatever you put your mind to and whatever you put effort into, and if you love it and if you’re interested in it, you can achieve anything’
  • ‘We are meaning making machines and we have the ability to determine what things mean’
  • A twin flame is someone who is a beautiful and harsh reflection of who you are
  • Ben learned that he didn’t honour his feelings. If you act as if your feelings don’t matter, your feelings are a part of you so that’s like saying that you don’t matter
  • Ayahuasca is called the Grandmother – When you have this, you don’t experience anything new. You get a highlight into what is your life and what needs to come up
  • It wasn’t until Ben showed 100% love to both parents that he felt 100% love for himself
  • I was working hard to escape myself to have success in business so I would feel good. That’s why I was doing it (Wes – We’re all guilty of chasing the illusion of the dangling carrot!)
  • If you train for more than 40 minutes at the gym it can actually be used as a sedation tool to escape reality
  • Sensual is using all of your senses
  • We’re born perfect, whole and complete; yet as we’ve gone through life we’ve added layers and stories and perceptions and beliefs that forget that
  • We have that inner kid in us that wants to come out, however all this stuff keeps getting piled on us and we forget the core nature of who we truly are
  • There’s only one relationship and that’s the relationship with yourself, everything else is a reflection of that
  • You get to experience life more and fully when you shred those layers of ‘I’ll feel good when I do this’ etc
  • I had this realisation, l was hysterically laughing that life is like a cosmic joke because we make it hard and we make it complicated and we think it’s hard yet we’re the ones making it hard. We’re the ones that put our own limits and frustrations on us
  • The best way that you can help others is by you being you and you being the light and honouring people where they are and not wanting to change them
  • Everything that was built, was built by one person with one voice in one moment and made one decision. I can do that, I’ve got one voice and in one moment I can make one decision
  • If it’s external it can be taken away. If our identity is attached to it and it’s then taken away, then we’re in trouble
  • There’s a difference between education and experience, you can read something or you can experience it
  • Energy is essentially an encapsulation of your thoughts, feelings and emotions
  • It’s important to reach out to the right people to get the help we need – as we don’t know what we don’t know
  • How to break away from your familiar? 1. Become aware of what is pulling you back, both your body and what you’re feeling inside 2. Get someone outside of you to help you (You can’t solve a problem from the same level that created it – Einstein)
  • ‘One’s joy is in direct proportion to their willingness to experience the unknown.’ So the more you lean into the unknown, the more joy you experience
  • We don’t need a conscious reason to reply to ‘How are you?’ with ‘I’m amazing’
  • The Great 8 Morning Routine: Green drink (Yor Health); Sweat; Meditating; Journaling; Sending a message to someone who I love, honour, appreciate and respect; Study something
  • You be the change that you wish to see in the world – Ghandi
  • My businesses didn’t grow as fast as I wanted them to because I wasn’t ready
  • Meditation is like going to the gym – you don’t get big in a day, you must keep at it. It’s creating a gap between your conscious and sub-conscious
  • Respond not React
  • What is the answer in one sentence: ‘Enjoy life’
  • ‘Don’t waste time’ Enjoy this moment, the moments coming up and the people that you are with. What’s the alternative. To not? So enjoy life
  • I think everyone has a purpose. Mine is to enjoy the now as much as possible. So by living that way it will help the people who I surround
  • Be weary of in the future vs now. It’s good to have something in the future, but for me I’m about being in the now. I am exited for the future however I’m not escaping the now to get to the future. A month is always a month away no matter what time zone you’re in.
  • Research Tyson Fury’s story: He set his whole life to win the world title, won it and then thought ‘Is this it?’. He fell out of shape so quickly and went off the rails. He wasn’t physically or mentally fit to fight so he had his belt stripped from him. He made a year long comeback, won a huge fight and donated it all to mental health awareness
  • Progress over perfection
  • You’re perfect, whole and complete now. There’s nothing outside that you can get that’s going to make you feel better than when you feel better from the inside
  • You don’t have to achieve anything, however you would do it because you can
  • We put on these layers which mask our true self. We put on these layers in an attempt to escape from the now
  • After viewing the photo of Ben: ‘It’s almost like you’ve learned something that was always there’

1:45:00 What are some inner areas that tend to hold you back or have held you back and how are you able or have been able to overcome them?

It was that parasite inside me that was attacking me that wanted to sedate and escape and not come to my full wholeness and just to fully love myself. So it was recognizing that and eliminating that through Reiki, through breath work techniques, emotional releasing, plant medicines, what Marci teaches. So definitely releasing stick, low, dark gloomy energy inside of me or emotions that were blocking me to feeling my higher self. It’s like a blockage in the sink that you can’t really see, and you need to get the plumber in. Once you clear them you feel liberated and so much lighter.

To change the world, you first must change yourself
Be the change that you want to see in the world

1:49:00 What are the best books you’ve read and/or resources that you’ve got the most from?

Ayahuasca, Meditation (it’s like going to the gym – you don’t get big in a day, you must keep at it)

1:51:40 Best Movies, TV Shows & Documentaries?

The old favourite was The Wolf of Wall Street, but not anymore.
Awake (about Yogananda’s journey)
Heal documentary

1:53:30 What are your predictions for your industry in the next 5 to 10 years?

Attention is attention and it’ll probably be a new platform

I think there will be more awareness brought to the power of plant medicines and psychedelics used for conscious awakening and healing work in such a profound and deeper way. The concern is that it’s not in the government’s best interests.

1:56:45 What goals have you set yourself over the next 12 months? Are there any that you’re willing share with us that we could help by keeping you accountable?

My main goal is just to continue to just see what’s possible. My question that I got was ‘How do you get the most out of life?’ and I got the answer through psychedelics. So continue to lean into that and to live that.

1:59:10 Who are you looking to connect with?

I feel called whenever the time comes to help entrepreneurs specifically to get out of their head and process the stress and overwhelm etc.

2:00:10 Do you think that we don’t have a particular purpose in the external world?

I think everyone has a purpose. Mine is to enjoy the now as much as possible. So by living that way it will help the people who Ben surrounds.

Be weary of in the future vs now. It’s good to have something in the future, but for me I’m about being in the now. I am exited for the future however I’m not escaping the now to get to the future. A month is always a month away no matter what time zone you’re in.
